Planning applications - please object

This aerial photo of Ruperra Castle listed outbuildings and gardens makes us so sad. Taken by the Royal Commission on Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales in 2018 it doesn’t give confidence about site management and the impact on archaeology and the environment.

It's now been two and a half years since the owners put in planning applications to convert outbuildings to a private residential development and still no proposals for the preservation of Ruperra Castle. If you care about our local heritage and beautiful places, make sure you object before it is too late!

We object to the current applications as:
  • it would be a travesty if work on less important buildings was allowed whilst Ruperra Castle remains a dangerous crumbling ruin
  • the outbuildings and surrounding area provide habitats for one of only two remaining maternity colonies of Greater Horseshoe Bats in South Wales
  • this unique combination of heritage buildings in an unspoilt green landscape close to Caerphilly, Cardiff and Newport is enjoyed by those who walk and cycle in the surrounding countryside. The proposals would impact irreparably on the setting of the scheduled ancient monument, Grade 2* Listed Castle and Grade 2 Registered Park.
If you are interested in the applications and would like to object, access them on the Caerphilly County Borough Council planning portal by searching – “Ruperra Castle” or by typing in these references: 19/0787/COU and 19/0789/COU
